The Movement Neuroscience for Health and Rehabilitation specialization focuses on how the nervous system controls movement in both healthy individuals and those with neurological disorders, covering the fundamentals of movement neuroscience, including neural control of movement and sensory-motor integration; experimental methods such as electromyography, EEG and MEG, functional MRI, and neurostimulation; and the clinical applications of movement neuroscience in the assessment and rehabilitation of neurological disorders.

The Physiology of Human Performance and Health specialization explores how the body produces and sustains movement, from muscle function and energy systems to the effects of training, aging, and disease, covering integrative neuromuscular performance and the interplay between contractile mechanics and cellular bioenergetics; how human performance adapts to training, aging, and disuse at the molecular, cellular, and whole-body levels; and the translation of physiological principles into practical, evidence-based recommendations for diverse populations, including athletes, patients, and those in extreme environments.

The Psychology in Sports, Performance, and Health specialization examines the psychological dimensions of performance, learning, and wellbeing across sports, health, physical education, and high-stakes professions such as policing or the military, covering psychological theories and interventions for optimizing performance and motivation, contemporary theories of skill acquisition and talent development, and the design and conduct of behavioral research in real-world settings such as physical education and mental health.

Alongside their chosen specialization, all students take a shared set of courses building academic, research, self-development, and professional skills, including data literacy, career orientation, and a community service learning project connecting human movement science to society. In the final months of the program, students undertake a full-time, twenty-week master research project, supported by workshops and mentoring, culminating in a course on research in societal context and a symposium where findings are presented to stakeholders. Students aiming for a career in higher education may also have the option to extend their studies with an additional teacher training track, though this is offered only in Dutch and admits a limited number of students each year.

The Children track focuses on physical activity in education, growth, development, and maturation, as well as its relationship to health, prevention, disease, and disability from childhood through young adulthood.

The Adults track examines physical activity and lifestyle choices that support health, prevention, fitness, and wellness in the general adult population as well as in groups affected by disease or disability.

The Elderly track focuses on physical activity in relation to health, prevention, fitness, wellness, personal expression, and coping with the challenges of aging, disease, or disability in older adults.

The Musculoskeletal disorders and sports activity joint diseases track examines conditions affecting the joints and musculoskeletal system in relation to sport and physical activity.

The Movement therapy in orthopaedic rehabilitation track focuses on using movement-based therapeutic approaches to support recovery from orthopaedic conditions.

The Psycho-pedagogic aspects of preventive physical activity track examines the psychological and educational dimensions of using physical activity for prevention.

The program concludes with an original thesis, supervised by a faculty member, on a topic within one of these specialist areas. Graduates go on to work as advanced fitness instructors or personal trainers, specialist exercise instructors focused on health, public health promoters, managers of fitness and health activities across different age groups and special populations, specialists in training for people with disabilities, and instructors of non-competitive sports disciplines, across public and private organizations spanning public health services, workplace health promotion, rehabilitation, adapted physical activity, fitness and wellness clubs, social services, schools, and the tourism and leisure industries.

Both specializations integrate language and communication studies, including academic writing and project management, especially for international students.
