Admission & Practical Considerations
Applying to study in Iceland
The University of Iceland accepts applications through its own portal, with deadlines typically in March–May for autumn intake. English-taught programs require proof of English proficiency (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent is standard). EEA/EU citizens do not need a visa and can register with Registers Iceland on arrival. Non-EEA students must apply for a residence permit from Útlendingastofnun (Directorate of Immigration). Given the very small international student community, it is worth contacting the international office directly before applying to confirm English program availability and current fee structures, which are set per credit unit rather than as a flat annual fee.
