日本語Belgium has two main university communities: the Flemish (Dutch-speaking) community and the French-speaking (Walloon/Brussels) community. Each has its own institutions and application timelines. KU Leuven (Flemish) is one of Europe's oldest universities; ULB and UCLouvain represent the French-speaking system. Both systems welcome international students, especially for English-taught master's programs.

Watch Out For
Belgium has no central admission system — you apply directly to each university and each has its own online portal and document requirements.
Non-EU students must obtain a student visa (type D) and, on arrival, register with the local municipality within 8 days to receive a residence permit.
Tuition fees differ significantly between EU and non-EU students at public Flemish universities — non-EU fees are roughly 5–8× higher.
Some English-taught programs at KU Leuven and Ghent have cohort sizes of 20–30 students — apply early as they fill quickly.

It depends on your language preferences and program choice. Both systems offer strong English-taught master's programs. KU Leuven and Ghent are world-ranked in engineering and life sciences; ULB has strength in social sciences, law, and medicine.
A small number of programs at VUB and ULB offer a February start. Most full-degree programs are September intake only. Check individual program pages for second-semester entry.
