Lithuania offers an accessible direct application process. LAMIS (Lithuanian Academic Migration Information System) coordinates some applications, but most universities also accept direct submissions through their own portals. The country is an excellent-value EU study destination with growing English programs.

Step-by-Step Application Process

Choose your program and institution

Key universities: Vilnius University (humanities, law, natural sciences), KTU Kaunas (engineering, IT, business), VMU Kaunas (social sciences, humanities), ISM University (business, economics), LSMU (medicine and health sciences).

Apply through LAMIS or the university portal

Visit lamis.lt for programs enrolled in the central system, or apply directly at each university's admissions page. For LSMU medicine, apply at lsmu.lt/en.

Prepare and upload documents

Upload: secondary or bachelor's degree certificate (with Apostille and English translation), transcripts, English language certificate (IELTS 5.5–6.5 depending on program), passport copy, and motivation letter.

Pay the application fee

Most Lithuanian universities charge €40–€100 for international applications.

Entrance exam (selective programs)

LSMU medicine requires an entrance test in biology and chemistry. Some KTU engineering programs require a mathematics placement test. These are typically held online in May–June.

Receive conditional acceptance

Most programs issue decisions within 2–4 weeks. Accept your offer and pay a reservation fee (€200–€500) to secure your place.

Apply for Lithuanian student visa or permit (non-EU)

Apply for a Lithuanian National Visa (type D) at the Lithuanian embassy, or apply directly for a Temporary Residence Permit for Study at the Migration Department of Lithuania. Processing: 2–4 weeks.

Complete formal enrollment

Submit original documents to the university for verification. Register your place of residence with the local municipality within 5 days of arrival.
