German Student Visa for Chinese Students

From APS certificate to visa stamp — the complete application process.

Chinese passport holders require a visa for all Schengen travel. For study purposes — which will last more than 90 days — you need a German national visa (Nationales Visum, Type D) applied for before departure. The national student visa requires your APS certificate, university admission letter, and Sperrkonto confirmation among other documents. Apply at the German Embassy in Beijing or your regional consulate.

Valid Chinese passport (at least 6 months validity beyond intended stay)
Completed visa application form
Two recent biometric passport photographs
APS certificate (mandatory — application will not be processed without it)
University admission letter (formal or conditional)
Sperrkonto certificate (~€11,208 deposited)
Proof of health insurance (statutory German GKV pre-registration or travel health insurance)
Proof of accommodation (student hall confirmation, lease, or host letter)
Academic certificates and transcripts (with certified Chinese→German or Chinese→English translation)
