Czech universities each manage their own admissions independently. The process is direct and relatively straightforward for English-taught programs. Czech-language programs are tuition-free, which is an exceptional benefit — but mastering Czech takes time. English-taught programs carry tuition fees but are open to all.

Step-by-Step Application Process

Select your program and university

Charles University is the most prestigious general university; CTU Prague and BUT Brno are top for engineering; Masaryk University is strong in sciences and law; VSE Prague leads in economics. Use studyin.cz or each university's website to browse programs.

Register and apply online

Each university has its own application portal. Charles University uses is.cuni.cz; CTU uses admissions.cvut.cz; Masaryk uses is.muni.cz. Complete the form and pay the application fee (typically CZK 500–1,000 / €20–€40).

Upload supporting documents

Required: certified copies of diplomas and transcripts (with official translations into Czech or English), language certificate (IELTS 6.0+ or Czech B2), passport, motivation letter, and CV.

Charles University medicine requires documents in Czech — engage a certified translator early.

Entrance exam or interview

Many Czech programs require an entrance examination — biology and chemistry for medicine, mathematics for engineering, or subject-specific tests. These are held in May–June, either in Prague or online. Register separately for the exam after submitting your application.

Past entrance exam papers are published on most university websites — use them for preparation.

Receive admission decision

Decisions are typically issued in June–July after entrance exams. Admission is conditional on passing the exam and final document verification.

Apply for a Czech long-stay visa (non-EU)

Apply for a Czech Long-Stay Visa for study (type D) at the Czech embassy. Required: acceptance letter, proof of financial means (€4,500 for the first year), health insurance, accommodation proof, and application fee. Processing: 60–90 days.

The Czech visa takes longer to process than most EU countries — allow 3–4 months.

Enroll and register

Complete formal enrollment at the university's faculty office with original verified documents. Register your address at the Foreign Police within 3 days of arriving.
