Design HeritageThe Bauhaus, Ulm School, and Scandinavian traditions give European design education a globally distinctive identity
Studio CultureEuropean design schools balance hands-on workshop culture with cutting-edge digital production skills
Industry IntegrationStrong connections to European fashion, automotive, product, and UX design industries through structured programs
International PortfolioStudying across cultures gives designers exposure to diverse aesthetics and cross-cultural visual languages
Design decides how we experience products, screens, services, and information — and Europe has shaped that discipline for over a century, from the Bauhaus and Scandinavian functionalism to the design-led companies that are now household names. What makes the continent compelling for students is that this heritage is fused with serious digital innovation: European design schools, distributed across many countries, run on a studio culture where you learn by making, critiquing, and iterating rather than by lectures alone. They sit close to strong creative industries and to design-driven companies like IKEA, Dyson, and Philips, so portfolios get built against real briefs. English-taught programs are increasingly common, and there is a continent-wide emphasis on human-centered and sustainable design that employers everywhere now want. Specializations range from graphic design, branding, and motion graphics to the fast-growing fields of UX/UI, interactive media, and service design. Graduates move into design studios and agencies, in-house product and brand teams, tech companies building digital experiences, and increasingly into service and systems design, where the question is no longer just how something looks but how an entire experience is structured.

Toon Boom Harmony 2D Animation VIA University College
This program is an intensive program based on the "Animation Basics 2" module from a professional animation degree. Through hands-on exercises, students explore physicality, acting, and movement cycles in 2D character animation using Toon Boom Harmony. The course emphasizes creating believable, expressive character performances and developing strong observational and analytical skills. Participants learn to apply principles of motion and emotion to bring characters to life, while improving their workflow and animation techniques. The program culminates in an exam that evaluates students on their animated exercises and a written reflection on their learning process.
Applicants must have completed at least one year of a Bachelor's degree or have relevant professional experience in visual arts. Basic animation knowledge and strong drawing skills are essential. All students must be fluent in English, with a minimum B2 level (e.g. IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 80, or equivalent). A portfolio (online link or PDF) is required and must include examples of animation experience—such as links to films, exercises, or transcripts from relevant courses. Admission operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and qualified applicants may be placed on a waiting list if the course is full. Documentation requirements vary depending on student status (e.g. currently enrolled, graduated, etc.).
Game Development and Digital Animation Mykolas Romeris University
This bachelor's program combines computer science and digital arts with an international study structure—two years in Lithuania followed by two years in South Korea. The curriculum focuses on programming, game design, computer graphics, 3D modeling, and animation, with practical training in AI, cinematography, game engine architecture, and sound design. Students can specialize through elective courses like environment modeling, character animation, or game server programming. The final year centers on a bachelor thesis, portfolio development, and advanced production techniques, preparing students for careers in digital media and interactive entertainment.
To apply for this bachelor's program, students must submit a secondary education diploma with final grades, a passport copy, and a motivational letter that is written independently without AI tools. Proof of English proficiency at the B2 level is required, demonstrated by TOEFL iBT (72–94), IELTS (5.5–6.5), PTE (59–75), or Duolingo (100–125) scores. Alternatively, applicants can take the university’s free online English test. A GPA of at least 60% of the maximum is mandatory. Candidates with a study gap of three or more years may need to complete additional evaluations. All documents must be submitted as high-quality color scans.

Jewellery Design and Gold- and Silversmithing Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp
This bachelor's program explores jewellery and other wearable accessories as expressions of the universal, timeless human need for ornament, treating these accessories as objects that convey status, style, and culture while serving as witnesses to broader social, cultural, and technological developments. The program prepares students for a versatile profession rooted in a rich tradition of craftsmanship while staying attuned to contemporary developments in the field, balancing artistic studio practice with theoretical study and drawing.
Students receive guidance from a team of experienced, professional artists and designers as they develop their own personal artistic practice in accessory design, with considerable attention devoted to the technical skills and practical knowledge the profession requires, including working with metals, gemstones, and other materials, understanding jewellery history, and using 3D computer drawing tools. The program encourages curiosity and imagination alongside the development of research skills, concept development, and self-reflection, supported by study visits, workshops, projects, lectures, and supervision from international guest lecturers, while research methodology, art history, and art theory provide the necessary theoretical grounding.
Graduates of the full program, including subsequent master's-level study, are prepared to work as independent designers of jewellery and wearable accessories, or to pursue collaborations within the world of jewellery design or goldsmithing.
Applicants need a secondary education diploma or equivalent qualification that provides access to higher education, with the specific accepted qualification depending on the applicant's country of education; applicants from the Netherlands need a VWO diploma or an HBO propaedeutic certificate, as a HAVO or MBO diploma does not provide access to the program, while applicants from other countries need a diploma recognized as providing access to university-level study in their home country. Applicants holding a Chinese diploma must additionally complete an APS screening in Beijing, both to verify their documents and to obtain a student visa.
Applicants must also demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction at the B2 level. For Dutch, this can be shown by having completed at least one year of Dutch-language secondary education, having earned at least 60 credits in Dutch-language higher education, or holding a recognized B2-level language certificate; for English, this can be shown through certain qualifying diplomas from Dutch- or English-language secondary or higher education, or through an accepted language certificate such as IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge English, ITACE, or Pearson PTE Academic at the required minimum score.
Admission to the program is only possible after passing an artistic entrance exam, which begins with a digital pre-selection based on a submitted portfolio. Applicants who pass this pre-selection are invited to a multi-day artistic entrance exam, combining studio-based artistic assignments with a dedicated drawing assignment, which can be completed either in person or digitally, though in-person participation is recommended. The exam assesses the applicant's creativity and imagination, interest in general culture and in art, design, and visual culture specifically, drawing skills, and ability to express ideas both visually and verbally.

Applicants must submit a portfolio demonstrating drawing and storytelling abilities, along with a motivational letter. Admission requires completion of upper secondary education equivalent to Danish qualifications. Proficiency in English (minimum B2 level) is required and must be documented. Selection is competitive and based on artistic potential assessed through the admission assignment and portfolio.
