Nostrifikácia — Slovakia's credential recognition process
Slovak universities require a secondary school diploma equivalent to the Slovak maturitná skúška (Matura) — awarded after 13 years of education. For foreign applicants, formal recognition of their secondary school diploma is called nostrifikácia. Like the Czech Republic, this is processed by the regional education authority (krajský školský úrad) of the region where the student plans to study — not by a national body. How to Apply
Applications go directly to each Slovak university — there is no central international portal

- Initiate the nostrifikácia process at the relevant regional education authority. Prepare your diploma, official transcripts, and certified Slovak or Czech translations.

- Submit your language proficiency documentation — Slovak language certificate for Slovak-taught programs, or IELTS/TOEFL for English programs.
- Prepare and upload all required documents including your motivation letter, CV, and passport copy.
- After receiving your acceptance, non-EU/EEA students apply for a Slovak national visa (Type D) at the nearest Slovak Embassy or consulate.

Watch Out For
The nostrifikácia process must be submitted to the regional education authority of the region where you will study — in Bratislava, this is the Bratislava Regional Education Authority. It cannot be done online and requires original or notarized copies of your documents.
Medical programs at Slovak medical universities and at Comenius University Faculty of Medicine require entrance exams (biology and chemistry). These are held in spring and are competitive — prepare in advance.
