Public higher education institutions in Austria charge a small tuition fee on a per-semester basis depending on whether you are an EU student or you come to study in Austria from a country outside Europe. In addition, tuition fees vary depending on whether you study at a university or at a university of applied sciences as explained below.
Tuition fees for degree-seeking EU students and exchange students at public universities
If you are an EU student and intend to study a complete degree in Austria, i.e., you are a so called "Ordentliche Studierende", or you are an exchange student, you are exempt from paying tuition fees at public universities. However, you will be required to pay a small fee of approximately 18 EUR per semester to the Student Union.
If you have exceeded the period of study defined in the curriculum in two semesters you will have to pay 363.36 EUR per semester.
Tuition fees for students from outside Europe and non-degree seeking students at public universities
If you are not an EU student you will have to pay 726.72 EUR per semester plus a fee of ca. 18 EUR per semester to the Student Union. In the event that you decide to take courses at more than one university, you will have to pay your tuition fee only once.
If you are not a degree-seeking student, you will have to pay 363.36 EUR per semester.

Both EU and non-EU students may have to pay tuition fees, which vary depending on the program and institution.
