How to Apply
Portugal has no central international application system — each university manages its own process
- Research your target university and program. Portugal's main universities — University of Lisbon, NOVA, University of Porto, University of Coimbra — each have their own international admissions portals.
- Check whether your secondary school diploma requires an equivalency recognition from ENIC-NARIC Portugal or whether the university handles this internally.
- Prepare your academic documents. Arrange certified Portuguese or English translations of any documents not already in one of those languages.
- Sit your language proficiency test if applying to Portuguese-taught programs, or submit IELTS/TOEFL results for English-taught programs.
- Submit your application through the university's online portal, uploading all required documents before the stated deadline.
- After receiving your admission letter, non-EU students must apply for a Portuguese student visa (Visto de Estudo) at the nearest Portuguese consulate. Upon arrival, register with SEF (Foreigners and Borders Service) to obtain a residence permit.
