Biology and Biochemistry Masaryk University

This bachelor's degree provides a comprehensive, interdisciplinary education across biology and biochemistry, preparing students for further master's-level study in either field. Students build a broad theoretical and practical foundation spanning inorganic and organic chemistry, general biology, microbiology, physiology, and molecular biology, while developing essential laboratory skills in biochemical and biological methods, including the analysis and processing of data drawn from laboratory work. The curriculum opens with core coursework in cell biology, general and inorganic chemistry, and an introduction to mathematics and statistics, before progressing through organic chemistry, genetics, and plant and animal physiology. Later semesters cover biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, immunology, ecology, ecotoxicology, virology, and omics technologies such as proteomics, genomics, and metabolomics, supported by laboratory courses that reinforce these subjects through hands-on practice. Students also complete a thesis under the guidance of a research supervisor, working within a specific research project and receiving training in scientific communication, backed by two dedicated thesis seminars.

Graduates are prepared for roles in pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, scientific institutions, and laboratories focused on the biochemical analysis and quality control of food, pharmaceuticals, or environmental samples, as well as positions in nature conservation, environmental protection, and public administration.
Applicants must have completed secondary education with a strong background in science subjects and must be proficient in English, since this bachelor's degree is taught entirely in that language. Admission is based on a two-round entrance exam process together with the program's available capacity. The first round consists of an online test covering topics such as cell structure and organelles, DNA and chromosome structure, DNA replication, transcription and translation, protein structure and function, biochemically relevant molecules, metabolism, the periodic table, chemical bonding, acidity and alkalinity, and the nomenclature of inorganic and organic compounds, alongside a review of each applicant's submitted materials; applicants need at least 350 of 500 points to advance. Those who pass proceed to an online interview covering their motivation and background as well as further questions on biology and biochemistry, and must again reach at least 350 of 500 points across the interview, motivation, and English language components to be admitted. Required documents include a one-page motivation letter, a transcript of records, and, for non-native English speakers, documentation of English language proficiency.

Chemistry: Materials, Engineering and Sustainability Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU)

This master's program focuses on materials chemistry and process engineering, offering students two specialization tracks. One track emphasizes the chemical development, characterization, and application of materials such as polymers, biomaterials, and materials for energy storage. The other track centers on the technical aspects, including the modeling and development of chemical production or energy conversion processes. Both paths integrate environmental, economic, and energy considerations, including life cycle analysis. Graduates are prepared for careers in academic and industrial research, production and quality management, equipment development, scientific consulting, and policy-making, or for further doctoral studies.
This master's program requires a bachelor's degree in natural or engineering sciences, specifically in chemistry with a strong emphasis on materials chemistry or chemical process engineering. Applicants must also demonstrate English proficiency with a TOEFL iBT score of at least 79, an IELTS score of 6.0 or higher, a Cambridge Certificate (minimum B or C), or UniCert Level II. Applicants from certain English-speaking countries or those who earned a degree in English in these countries or in Germany are exempt from submitting a language certificate. German applicants may use their Abitur as proof of English proficiency.

Chemistry ELTE – Eötvös Loránd University

This bachelor's program provides a rigorous, research-oriented education in chemistry, built on a strong foundation in mathematics, physics, and the core chemical disciplines, and is well suited to students who want to understand chemical phenomena from the molecular to the macroscopic level, enjoy problem-solving and experimental work, and are motivated by challenges in sustainability, materials science, health, and environmental protection. It is delivered over three years in English.

The program opens with introductory mathematics and elementary physics tailored for chemistry students, along with applied mathematics, building the quantitative foundation for the rest of the degree.

The core curriculum covers general chemistry and laboratory safety, a two-part inorganic chemistry sequence, and a two-part organic chemistry sequence, each paired with hands-on laboratory practice, along with chemical thermodynamics and reaction kinetics, electrochemistry, surface and colloid science, and physical chemistry laboratory work. Students also study the fundamentals of analytical chemistry with its own laboratory component, the chemistry of natural organic compounds, digital chemistry, instrumental analysis, and environmental chemistry, complete a required internship, and round out their studies with optional coursework and a thesis.

Laboratory training begins early and continues throughout the degree, with students gaining increasing independence as they progress, supported by strong integration between theoretical coursework and experimental work. Students also have access to a modern, AI-integrated laboratory environment, where they gain hands-on experience with automated measurement systems and wireless data-collection tools, alongside digital skills such as big data management and practical programming in Python.

Students can pursue the degree through a general track or choose to specialize further in analytical chemistry or theoretical chemistry.

Graduates go on to further study in MSc or PhD programs in chemistry or related fields, or pursue careers in chemical laboratories, analytical and quality control units, and research and development, as well as interdisciplinary sectors such as materials science, environmental analysis, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals. Typical roles include laboratory technician or junior chemist, quality control or quality assurance associate, research assistant, environmental or chemical analysis technician, or technical specialist supporting chemical instrumentation and laboratory operations.
Applicants must submit their secondary school certificate and records from their final two years of secondary school, along with a CV, a motivation letter, and a valid passport copy with photo.

English proficiency must be demonstrated at CEFR B2 level in both speaking and writing, through an IELTS Academic score of at least 5.5 overall (with no individual band below 5.5), a TOEFL iBT score of approximately 72 to 90 overall, a Pearson PTE Academic score of at least 61 overall, or another CEFR B2-level English certificate recognized in Hungary.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and include an online oral entrance exam; final rankings are based on a combined evaluation of academic performance, as reflected in the submitted documents, and the results of the entrance exam.
