Physics University of Bologna

This physics program offers five specialization tracks: Materials Physics and Nanoscience, Theoretical Physics, Nuclear and Subnuclear Physics, Applied Physics, and Didactics, History, and Epistemology of Physics. Each track provides a tailored curriculum, from advanced quantum mechanics and particle physics to condensed matter, medical applications, and science education. Students select from diverse electives and undertake hands-on internships or research activities. The program culminates in a thesis, enabling both academic and applied scientific training across multiple domains of physics.
Admission to this physics program requires a relevant undergraduate degree in physics or astronomy, or an equivalent foreign qualification evaluated for its alignment with core academic content in classical and modern physics, mathematics, and computing. Applicants without a directly related degree may still qualify if they have completed at least 90 credits across specified scientific disciplines including physics, mathematics, informatics, engineering, and chemistry. A B2 level of English proficiency is also required, to be demonstrated through recognized certificates, university transcripts, or an official test administered by the university. EU students typically pay around €1,200/year based on family income. Non-EU students usually pay a fixed fee of about €1,400/year. Check with the university for your exact fee.

Science Charles University

This bachelor's degree offers a modern, interdisciplinary education spanning mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology, taught entirely in English. The first two years follow a fixed curriculum designed to build strong foundational and interdisciplinary skills across all four disciplines before students commit to a specific direction. Mathematics and informatics are covered through courses in applied mathematics, probability and statistics, computational science, and programming, while physics, chemistry, and biology are each represented by a sequence of four courses plus dedicated laboratory work, progressing from general physics, classical mechanics, electromagnetism, and optics through chemical principles and transformations, and from molecular and cellular biology to organismal biology, evolution, and ecology. Personal development and seminar courses run throughout to build soft skills and independent study habits.

In the final year, students design their own individualized study plan, drawing at least a portion of their credits from one specialization block in biology, chemistry, or physics, while filling out the rest of their program with subjects of their choosing. This final phase centers on a bachelor's thesis project carried out under the guidance of researchers, preparing graduates for targeted master's studies in their chosen field.
Applicants must have completed secondary education, submitting either a nationally recognized certificate or proof that their foreign qualification is deemed equivalent, along with a curriculum vitae, a motivation letter, and a two-year transcript of grades in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology from the final years of secondary school, translated into English, Czech, or Slovak if needed. Admission is based on the total points achieved across these submitted materials together with a one-round online interview conducted in English, which tests high-school-level knowledge of biology, chemistry, and physics along with the ability to integrate, apply, and communicate this knowledge; up to 100 points are available in total, split across the curriculum vitae, motivation letter, prior grades, and the entrance interview itself. The entrance exam may be waived for applicants who can document outstanding achievement, such as reaching the national or international round of relevant science olympiads, attaining top scores on Advanced Placement exams in biology, chemistry, physics, or calculus, or achieving strong predicted scores in relevant subjects under the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program.
