Mechanical Engineering ELTE – Eötvös Loránd University

This bachelor's program trains mechanical engineers with a combined foundation in theoretical principles and industrial practice, preparing graduates to design and produce complete machinery systems or individual components using computer-aided engineering tools while managing and optimizing production processes across engineering domains. It is particularly suited to students interested in production and manufacturing technology, including Industry 4.0 applications, and develops a problem-solving mindset along with the ability to work within large project teams.

The curriculum opens with foundational coursework in mathematics, physics, technical chemistry, technical drawing, informatics systems, and economics, then builds into core mechanical engineering subjects including statics, dynamics, the mechanics and structure of materials, and machine elements, alongside fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, vibrations, heat transfer, and heat engines. Further coursework covers electromechanics and the fundamentals of electrical engineering, a sequence of manufacturing technologies courses, computer-aided design, CNC and CAM methods, and the finite element method, supported by measurement techniques and quality assurance training. Business law and management and business economics are also included. Students select elective subjects at several points in the program, with options such as labor safety, logistics, coordinate-measuring techniques, lean methodology, and project laboratory work, and the program concludes with an internship and a two-part thesis project.

Practical training takes place in laboratories for materials science, production technologies, and control techniques, equipped with tools such as tensile testers, CNC machines, scanning electron microscopes, and robots, along with computer labs running software including Ansys, Solid Edge, Inventor, ADAMS, and Matlab. First-year students are supported through a mentoring system led by senior students and PhD candidates, and the program's connections with the business community and collaborative research and development projects provide up-to-date practical knowledge. Students also have access to exchange semesters and international research opportunities through partnerships with universities abroad, as well as undergraduate research activities that can lead to presentations at national and international conferences.

Graduates work as mechanical engineers across Europe, including at international companies, Hungarian firms, state institutions, vehicle manufacturers, research institutes, and universities, in roles spanning computer-aided design, structural analysis, quality management, and production efficiency and management. Typical positions include design engineer, production engineer, automation engineer, simulation engineer, and research fellow.
Admission requires sufficiently strong secondary school grades, particularly in mathematics, along with an intermediate level of English; applicants must be 18 years old by August 31 of the intended start year.

English proficiency must reach at least B1 level in both speaking and writing, demonstrated through FCE, CAE, IELTS, or TOEFL, or through proof that a previous level of education was conducted in English; all applicants also complete an oral interview as part of admission.

Required documents include an application form, records from the final two years of secondary school, a secondary school certificate, a transcript of records, a CV, a motivation letter, a passport copy, a passport photo, a language certificate, and a medical certificate confirming the absence of AIDS, Hepatitis A, B, or C, or other epidemic conditions. Admission includes a written and oral entrance examination conducted online, including an interview covering the applicant's English and communication skills, prior studies, motivation, and basic questions on mathematics and physics; final rankings are based on a combined evaluation of academic performance and entrance examination results.
