This master's program offers advanced training in biomedical engineering, with three specialization tracks: Biomechanics, Electronic Implants, and Image-Guided Therapy. All students complete core modules in applied mathematics, biomedical engineering, and human medicine, covering subjects such as biomechanics, physiology, biomedical instrumentation, signal processing, and medical imaging. The Biomechanics track focuses on areas like fluid and solid mechanics, movement analysis, and tissue engineering. The Electronic Implants track includes microelectronics, signal processing, wireless medical devices, and neurotechnology. The Image-Guided Therapy track emphasizes computer-assisted surgery, medical image analysis, robotics, and technologies for therapeutic interventions.

Students also undertake complementary skill modules in topics such as ethics, regulatory affairs, scientific writing, and innovation management. In addition to major-specific electives, they can choose from a wide range of general electives in areas such as machine learning, medical image analysis, and programming. The program concludes with a master’s thesis and provides students with strong interdisciplinary knowledge applicable in both research and clinical settings.
Admission to this master's program is automatic for students who hold a bachelor's degree in fields such as microtechnology, system technology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, physics, or computer science from a Swiss institution. Applicants with other academic backgrounds or international degrees are also welcome to apply; their applications will be evaluated individually based on prior knowledge and academic performance. In some cases, additional coursework of up to 30 ECTS credits may be required during the master's program.

Applicants with international degrees must submit GRE test results, and the bachelor’s degree used for evaluation must typically not be older than five years. Although all instruction and assessment are conducted in English, no formal English language certificate is required—students are expected to ensure they have sufficient language skills to follow the program.

This master's program requires applicants to hold a bachelor's or equivalent degree in a relevant field with either 210 ECTS credits (for a three-semester track starting in summer) or 180 ECTS credits (for a four-semester track starting in winter). A minimum of 70 ECTS or 60 semester hours in biological, biomedical, biochemical, or biophysical subjects is necessary, along with at least 18 weeks of practical laboratory experience, such as during a bachelor's thesis. Proof of English language proficiency is required, with accepted tests including TOEFL iBT (minimum 79), IELTS Academic (minimum 6.0), Cambridge (minimum B or C), or UniCert (Stufe II). Medium of instruction certificates and expired test results are not accepted.

This master's program is open to students with a background in engineering or natural sciences, or those from social sciences, commercial sciences, or law with relevant experience. Applicants from the latter fields must have at least one year of work experience related to environmental engineering and/or have completed at least six credits in environmental engineering coursework. It includes extensive training in organic and physical chemistry, biochemistry, nanomaterials, polymer science, biomaterials engineering, spectroscopy, composites, and environmental sustainability. The curriculum integrates advanced lab work, CAD tools, simulation methods, entrepreneurship, and a diploma thesis, offering mobility semesters and industry placements. Electives allow specialization in polymer biomaterials, smart composites, self-assembling materials, and sustainability-driven innovations.
Applicants must have passed mathematics and English (with at least 60% at advanced or 30% at bilingual level). A second foreign language is also required, along with physics, chemistry, or a relevant vocational diploma. Accepted vocational diplomas include analytical technician, chemical technology technician, or environmental protection technician. Missing one of the additional subjects results in a zero score but does not disqualify the applicant.
