If you are not an EU/EEA student and you plan to study in the Czech Republic for a period of time longer than 3 months, you have to apply for a so called long-term visa. If you intend to study in the Czech Republic for a period of time of up to 90 days, you may apply for a Schengen Visa.

What documents do you need to apply for a long-term visa to study in the Czech Republic?
- The filled-in application form
- The letter of acceptance from your higher education institution indicating that you have been admitted to full-time studies
- A travel document
- A copy of the pages in your passport where personal data can be read
- Two recent passport-sized photos
- A copy of your health insurance plan
- A bank statement or copy of your grant/scholarship stating you can support yourself financially throughout your time as a student in the Czech Republic
- Documentation confirming your accommodation details
- Police record of good conduct translated into Czech by an authorized translator

How much does it cost to apply for a long-term visa to stay in the Czech Republic?
The application fee may vary depending on the student's citizenship. In general, most students applying for a long-term visa will be required to pay CZK 2,800 (ca. 110 EUR)*. EU students apply for a certificate of residence free of charge.

Where do you have to pay the application fee?
You may pay the application fee at the Czech embassy or consulate when you submit your application. Please, note that some Czech missions abroad may accept payments in cash while others may prefer a money transfer.
How much is the minimum financial subsistence requirement?
You will be asked to prove you have at least ca. 158 EUR per month (CZK 4,040) to support yourself financially.*

How long does it take to process an application for a long-term visa?
In general the processing time is of approximately 60-90 days after all the documentation has been submitted.
Residence permit for EU students
If you are an EU/EEA student and you plan to stay in the Czech Republic for a period of time longer than 3 months, you will be required to apply for a certificate of temporary residence at the nearest immigration police office once in the Czech Republic within 3 months of your arrival. In general, you will have to submit the following documents when applying for your certificate of residence:
- The filled-in application form.
- Proof of health insurance. You may use the European health care card
- A document proving your status as EU citizen or EU resident
- A recent passport-sized photo
- The letter of acceptance from your higher education institution indicating that you have been admitted to full-time studies
