If you are not an EU/EEA student and you plan to study in Spain for a period of time longer than 3 months, you have to apply for a residence permit. Please, observe that the residence permit is only temporary and intended to register students while enrolled at university or college in Spain. Students from certain countries must also apply for a Schengen Visa to enter Europe.

  When filling in the form, make sure you select the option "Estancia por estudios o investigación" to indicate you are applying as a student
• The letter of acceptance from your higher education institution indicating that you have been admitted to full-time studies
• A copy of the pages in your passport where personal data can be read
• Three passport-sized photos not older than 6 months
• A copy of your health insurance plan
• A bank statement or copy of your grant/scholarship stating you can support yourself financially throughout your time as a student in Spain
• The receipt to prove you have paid your application fee

Residence permit for EU students

If you are an EU student, you are simply requested to inform the authorities you are living in Spain by filling in the "Solicitud de Certificado de registro como residente comunitario" within three months of your arrival in Spain.

The application fee is 10,20 EUR and you will be immediately issued a certificate indicating you are living in Spain.
